The insect breeding season

The warmer months in Queensland are great, it means lots of sunshine, outdoor barbeques with family and friends and trips to the bush and beach.

However we’re not the only ones that enjoy the warmer months of the year, insects love the warm weather too. The warmer weather and increases in rain activity provide ideal breeding conditions for insects.

Common insects around the home that increase in numbers through the warmer months are cockroaches, ants, spiders, flies, moths and mosquitoes.

Flying insects like mosquitoes can spread disease and now is the time when you are at higher risk of contracting a disease spread by these pests. Mosquitoes can spread diseases such as Ross River virus, Barmah Forest virus and dog heartworm and the number of cases normally increase around this time of year.

Some signs around the home of increased flying insect activity are an increase in spider webs. Spiders are a predatory insect and more webs around the home usually means there is an abundance of flying insects which they can feed on.

There are some things you can do at home to reduce the amount of mosquitoes breeding such as clean out gutters, empty any water holding devices outdoors and screen water tanks, doors and windows.

It’s also important to use mosquito repellent when going outside during dusk and dawn, this is the time when mosquitoes are most active.

Having us treat your property will also help in the reduction of these pests and will reduce the risk of being bitten.
